Programme Description | | Marketing is an important business function that identifies the needs and wants of consumers in order to develop appropriate products and services. Marketing involves researching the market to identify needs, designing the product or service and communicating with consumers through advertising and promotion.
Our Honours Degree in Marketing offers students a specialised education in modern marketing practice. Throughout the programme, students will develop a range of important specialised marketing skills to equip them to work in the areas of branding, international marketing, market research, advertising, public relations, event management and other related areas.
Alongside marketing subjects, students will learn other essential business disciplines such as management, finance, law, communications and information management. This ensures graduates are equipped with a broad understanding of the business environment. In the current economic climate, graduates who possess experience of essential business functions, as well as specialised marketing knowledge are increasingly important to a wide range of sectors. | |
Entry Requirements: | | Leaving Certificate: A minimum of 2 Honours and 4 Passes in six Leaving Certificate subjects, including Mathematics and English/Irish. FETAC: A full FETAC Level 5 award, including a distinction grade in at least three modules, or a FETAC Level 6 award. Mature: Refer to the admissions section. | |

| | (1) The range of globally focused marketing theory and applied marketing practice obtained by graduates of this programme enables them to obtain employment in a wide range of direct and indirect marketing roles, nationally or internationally, in the public or private sectors or in a self-employed capacity. Graduates of this programme can demonstrate how their marketing skills are central to the business of value creation in enterprises from product/service conception through to its ultimate consumption.
(2) Marketing is fundamental to every successful business and it is particularly crucial in today’s competitive and global marketplace. Even though many industries have to cut back on spending during tough economic times, all businesses need to continuously attract new customers, as well as retain existing customers. Consequently, businesses are willing to invest in marketing even when they may be downsizing and cutting costs in other areas. Marketing graduates specialised in the knowledge, skills and competencies which are central to understanding why and what customers require of product and services, are a vital contributor to organisations in ensuring their survival and in addressing the competitive challenges that organisations now face. (3) Another emerging trend in marketing practice is that voluntary bodies and public service organisations such as hospitals, transport companies and colleges are now adopting professional marketing approaches to help enhance customer response and to improve their services. As a result, there are increasing numbers of job opportunities in those sectors. Graduates of the programme will also be vital to companies in addressing the significant contribution contemporary marketing practices in the digital world can yield organisations.
