120 Companies Attend LIT Careers’ Day as Employers Meet Next Year’s 1,300+ Industry Ready Graduates

A total of 120 of the Mid West’s largest employers filled the halls and hallways of LIT’s Moylish Campus on Tuesday, October 4, 2019 for the Institute of Technology’s popular Careers’ Day.

The demand for spaces at the LIT Careers’ Day aimed at LIT students and graduates, has meant that it has grown into a biannual event, with a second careers’ day now taking place in Spring.

Careers & Employability Manager at LIT, Dr Órlaith Borthwick attributes the success of the event to the engagement of LIT’s students with employers who value their education and training. Many of the key courses are designed with consideration and input from local industry in the Mid West.

Dr Borthwick said, “Multinational and indigenous companies throughout the Mid West continue to support our Careers’ Day. Company leaders tell us that our 1,300 plus graduates, who are educated to a high standard and are work ready, are one of the biggest draws to the event.

“A total of 83% of our graduates also stay in the region, making them very attractive to companies based in Limerick, Clare and Tipperary.”

“Careers’ Days like today allow for employers to meet directly with the talent pool of students at LIT, many of whom will be their future employees. It also allows for students to engage directly with potential employers to learn about the many opportunities in the Mid West following graduation,” she added.

“At LIT we believe it is important to engage with industry and keep the channels of communication open, as we work together to provide highly skilled employment for highly skilled employees, thereby growing the economic capabilities of the region and the quality of life for its citizens.”
