This programme is designed to prepare students with industry standards for roles within Film and TV Art Departments. The programme will be delivered in a flexible mode by utilising studio, workshops and blended learning to allow participants to continue working within industry.

The programme will develop competencies applicable to all roles within the Film and TV Art Department. Those roles include; Art Department Assistant, Art Department Coordinator, Concept Artist, Junior Draftsman, Draftsman and Assistant Art Director. The Graduates of this programme will possess a well-developed understanding and a practical knowledge of how to work as part of a TV or Film Art Department Team. The programme will include; Talks and demos from industry experts, trips to Art Departments and Prop houses, trips to set production/manufacturing workshops, and work placements. Graduates will have a range of industry ready skills that make them highly employable across all roles in any TV or Film Art Department. The programme has been developed in conjunction with local industry, in particular Troy Studios.

What are the entry requirements?

Applicants must possess a primary honours Level 8 degree or equivalent. Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPL) will be granted based on relevant experience and training in accordance with LIT’s RPL policy.

This is a Level 9 Special Purpose Award. It is expected that candidates would be comfortable with technology. Ideal candidates would be those with previous design experience that may require enhanced technical qualifications to further their career. Prior experience with technology would be an advantage.

A PDF CV and PDF portfolio is required. Portfolio should demonstrate creative ability. This will include, but not limited to, drawing and 3D making skills, traditional and digital skills, examples of past creative projects and any previous work related to the TV and Film Industry. Three creative projects with good images and descriptions is adequate.
 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a minimum score of 5.5 in an IELTS exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a minimum of 6.0 is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their English proficiency meets these requirements.

Delivery

This programme is delivered with a mixture of online and classroom delivery. Some of the content will be delivered online with the remaining involving either lectures/practicals/tutorials delivered at Limerick School of Art & Design, Clare Street, Limerick. The classroom delivery will occur at weekends to allow for students to continue weekday employment.

This programme will run over 2 Semesters: 
Semester 1: January 2021 - June 2021
Semester 2: September 2021 - December 2021
Start date: 11 January 2021 : TBC

What will the time commitment be?

Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college.  The balance between these two varies by discipline, and by level of study. You should bear in mind that the workload will increase at particular times e.g. when assignments are due.

Assessment

No end of year examinations.This programme will be assessed through continuous assessment.

This programme is free of charge for participants who are unemployed or previously self-employed.

Participants who are in employment will receive a 90% discount and  are required to pay a reduced fee of €312.50.
