The Bachelor of Engineering (Ordinary) in Electrical Engineering provides students with a detailed knowledge of electrical, control and automation Engineering and the skills necessary to identify, formulate and solve industrial electrical & automation engineering problems.

 

 

 

 

 

 

What are the entry requirements?

Leaving Certificate 

A minimum of 4 O6/H7 grades in Leaving Certificate subjects, including English/Irish plus a minimum of O5 in Mathematics.

Mature Applicants

Candidates applying as mature applicants may be required to attend an interview and may be requested to take an aptitude test to prove their suitability for a place on this programme.


Level 6 Craft Certificate (Trade) such as Fitting or Toolmaking, or National/Higher Certificate

Candidates who hold a Senior Trade Certificate and/or National Craft Certificate or holders of a National/Higher Certificate (Level 6) in Engineering or Technology may be considered for admission to Year 2 of this programme subject to a satisfactory interview.

    This module is designed to provide the fundamental analytical and underpining knowledge and techniques to model, analyse and solve problems in electrical engineering. The material has been designed to enable the learner to use techniques learned for the analysis, modelling and solution of realistic engineering problems. For example: the learner will model electrical systems by first and second order ordinary differential equations and solve by the method of Laplace transforms. The learner will decompose functions, with arbitrary period T, such as the sawtooth function, into the sum of a (possibly infinite) set of simple oscillating functions. The learner will solve a system of linear equations using matrices to determine the currents through various branches of electrical networks.
