This skills based programme offers leaners an exciting opportunity to explore the world of broadcast and film industries, covering a range of disciplines across Film & TV Production, Visual Effects, Post-Production, Radio, Audio Mixing, Photography, as well as Broadcast Technologies.

 

What are the entry requirements?

Leaving Certificate
A minimum of 2 H5 & 4 O6/H7 grades in six Leaving Certificate subjects, including English or Irish.

Foundation Level Mathematics at grade F2 or higher is acceptable as meeting the Mathematics requirement for this programme.

Mature Applicants
Candidates applying as mature applicants may be required to attend an interview and may be requested to take an aptitude test to prove their suitability for a place on this programme.

    A study of the workings of the Broadcast Industry and an introduction to television programme development. Analysis of current trends and practices in broadcasting is fundamental to this module and therefore requires the learner to watch television and listen to radio regularly. The practical element of this module gives the learner experience of television camera operating and basic video and audio production techniques in a portable single camera context.

    This module will advance the learner's technical and creative skills in audio editing and audio‑to‑video synchronization. The learner will develop advanced DAW editing techniques, perform stereo and surround sound mixing, and will develop skills to prepare audio content for broadcast.

    This module affords the opportunity to further the computer graphics work undertaken at stage 2 by investigating various methods of integrating 3D environments with live action digital video using industry standard visual effects tools. The student will be introduced to the Python Programming Language to focus on learning control and managememt of a VFX workflow. The module futher prepares students for the transition from undergraduate to the work environment. The emphasis is on creating and managing multiple platforms for showcasing students' creative work and achievements.

    This module develops the students knowledge of compositing techniques and creative skills in generating 2D & 3D backgrounds. Students are taught how to light green screens evenly to avoid excessive editing work in post production. They are also taught how to light subjects to match lighting in the planned composite background. The student will also learn techniques to create their own 2D and 3D digital backgrounds.
