Civil engineering is everything you see that's been built around us.
It's about roads and railways, schools, offices, hospitals, water and power and much more. The kinds of things we take for granted but would find life very hard to live without.

This 2-year programme provides theoretical and practical studies in all the basic aspects of Civil Engineering, including materials, technologies and standards relevant to the practice of Civil Engineering. Some of the practical elements of the course include:

  • 3D digital modelling in our computer labs
  • Experiments on materials in our materials laboratories
  • Use of modern land surveying equipment and associated software applications

The programme leads to the award of Higher Certificate in Civil Engineering. This award is accredited by Engineers Ireland, the main professional body for engineers working in Ireland.

On successful completion of the programme, you are eligible to apply to Year 3 of our BEng in Civil Engineering, where you can obtain a degree in Civil Engineering with one further year of study.

What are the entry requirements?

Applicants must have 5 O6/H7 grades or higher at Ordinary Level in 5 Leaving Certificate subjects. Two of these subjects must include Mathematics and a Language (English or Irish).

Applicants presenting QQI FET/FETAC qualifications must hold a Full Level 5 Award totalling 120 Credits.

Applicants presenting qualifications other than those mentioned above will be assessed on an individual basis.

Mature Applicants (i.e. over 23) are exempt from the normal entry requirements.
