This programme is a mix of technological, business and management skills specifically related to the automotive/transport industry. Students will be exposed to concepts and ideas that will allow them to develop the necessary competencies to launch a career in the transport industry.

Transportation technology has been identified by government as a key issue in maintaining and enhancing the competitiveness of our economy in the decades ahead. This programme allows students to gain the necessary skills to become managers in today’s automotive industry.

What are the entry requirements?

Leaving Certificate

A minimum of 5 O6/H7 grades in Leaving Certificate subjects, including Mathematics and English or Irish.

Mature applicants

Candidates applying as mature applicants may be required to attend an interview and may be requested to take an aptitude test to prove their suitability for a place on this programme.

Level 6 Craft Certificate (Trade), or National/Higher Certificate

Candidates who hold a Senior Trade Certificate and/or National Craft Certificate or holders of a National/Higher Certificate (Level 6) in Engineering or Technology may be considered for admission to Years 2 or 3 of this programme subject to a satisfactory interview. 

International Applicants

International applicants should apply directly to the International Office at TUS, allowing plenty of time for completing the visa process. Applications for September start should be made by 1st June at the latest to ensure visas are processed in time.     This module introduces the learner to the Microsoft Office suite of applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and demonstrates their use in everyday engineering. Beginning with the assumption that learners have no prior experience with computing, basic computing literacy is established before progressing to more advanced material. The learner will acquire general computing skills and competencies, in addition to a comprehensive understanding of Microsoft Office. The learner will develop the ability to apply the software to useful engineering applications such as formal report writing, generating engineering data, producing equations, data analysis, and data presentation.

Topics covered include areas, volumes, irregular shapes, trigonometry, waveform sketching, differentiation and graphical analysis. Practical problems in relation to automotive engineering are given throughout the module.
