About the Presentation:

Radiotherapy uses high energy ionising radiation to treat cancer. This lecture will explore the technology that is used in external beam radiotherapy and will describe how electrical, electronic, mechanical and civil engineering principles are utilised in modern radiotherapy centres.

About the Speaker:

LIT Lecturer Mairead DennehyMairead Dennehy is a lecturer in Limerick Institute of Technology. She teaches a variety of modules related to biomedical engineering and medical physics on the Medical Technology and Clinical Technology degree courses. 

She has a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from UCC, a Masters in Biomedical Engineering from UL and completed an internationally accredited Medical Physics training program in Radiotherapy. 

She has worked in the electronics and medical devices industries as well as clinical Radiotherapy departments.
