Apply Now

Applications for the Government Laptop Scheme have reopened for a limited period only. Please note that applications to the scheme close on April 9th, 2021 at 5pm. Please be advised that this is on a first come, first served basis. Please note that eligibility criteria apply.

Loan of Laptop Device

For the academic year 20/21, through the COVID supports grant scheme, LIT will have a limited number of laptop units available to loan to eligible students whether they are on campus or studying from home.

Who can apply?

Full-time and part-time students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) are eligible to apply for a laptop under this Grant. The Grant covers both incoming first year students and returning students.
International, non-EU fee-paying students are not considered eligible for support under this Grant.

Eligible Students – Application Criteria

Eligibility will be on a needs basis and in accordance with the guidelines LIT must be satisfied that a student who receives a device under this grant has demonstrated the need for the device to access their programme of study e.g. they or their family do not have the means to purchase such a device themselves. Applicants may be asked to provide documentation including proof of their own or their household income, as appropriate, and receipts for living costs such as rent, bills or childcare.

In deciding which students should receive a device, institutions are required to allocate them on the basis of the target groups identified in the National Plan for Equity of Access to Higher Education 2015 - 2021:

  • Students disadvantaged by socio-economic barriers
  • First-time mature students
  • Students with disabilities
  • Part-time/flexible learning students
  • Students who hold further education qualifications
  • Students who are members of the Traveller and Roma communities
  • Students who are lone parents
  • Students of ethnic minorities
Allocated Devices Ownership

The devices will remain the property of LIT and will be distributed to eligible students by means of an appropriate lending/rental scheme. A loan agreement including the terms and conditions will apply.
