Community Engagement

Community Engagement

LIT works in collaboration with community and voluntary agencies, in addition to educational institutions, to progress engagement in higher education for under-represented groups. LIT Access Service recognises the significant potential that effective community partnerships offer in progressing equity of access to education. The symbiotic relationships, which have been fostered between the Access Service and our community partners, have proven to be vital in empowering people to achieve their educational potential.

121 Digital

LIT works in partnership with 121 Digital to offer an opportunity for members of the local community to learn how to use their smartphones, laptops or tablets. LIT students volunteer their time and expertise as Digital Tutors. 121 Digital provides an environment where students learn at their own pace and set the learning outcomes, which are of most benefit and relevance to their digital needs. 121 Digital is free of charge for learners.

 The AONTAS Adult Learners’ Festival

The AONTAS Adult Learners’ Festival takes place nationally each year. The LIT Access Service and Flexible Learning department work in collaboration to promote this celebration of adult learning in LIT.

The Adult Learners' Festival is all about:

  • Celebrating adult learning and the achievements of adult learners
  • Showcasing the work of adult education providers
  • Promoting the work of AONTAS and the adult education sector
  • Ensuring that the adult learner is at the centre of adult and further education policy

To complement the festival theme, LIT host events providing an opportunity to welcome adult learners to visit the campus and meet with staff and current mature students studying on academic programmes in which they may be interested. Guided tours and taster lectures are also provided.

If you would like to join us for this event, please contact Access@lit.ie or (061) 293103.
