LIT Tipperary monitors its performance regarding waste management by analysing the data in monthly waste bills. More detailed waste audits are done on occasion to assess the quality of waste separation. Litter surveys have also been undertaken. The graph below shows the waste production in tonnes per month for LIT Tipperary from July 2018 to August 2021. The current recycling rate is 33%, with the remaining waste sent for energy recovery. The LIT Tipperary Green Charter target is 70% recycling by the end of 2022. Waste production per person on campus was 31 kilograms per person per year in 2019 (the most recent pre-COVID-19 calendar year).
