Limerick School of Art & Design, LIT, has collaborated with the Crescent Shopping Centre, Limerick for the first time ever to bring a special Christmas pop up gallery to the shopping centre.
The pop up gallery, “LSAD Artists on Display” is situated in the Garryowen Mall offering eye catching work across various disciplines of design including ceramics, fine art, photography, sculpture, video installations and more.
Dean Limerick School of Art and Design and Director of Cultural Engagement LIT, Mike Fitzpatrick said the pop up store is much more than an opportunity for the LSAD artists to display, and potentially sell, some of their key pieces, it is also an opportunity for them to show case the artistic talent that emerges from LSAD and engage with a massive audience that flows through the Crescent Shopping centre.
“On opening the “LSAD Artists on Display” pop up store we have been reminded once again of the great interest in the arts here in Limerick. We have such a strong art heritage and a tradition of honing our art, design and fashion skills going back to when LSAD began life almost one hundred and seventy years ago,” said Mr Fitzpatrick.
“The pop up store gives us the opportunity to share the skills being developed on a daily basis at LSAD with the general public. It has allowed us to engage with future students, potential customers and people who are generally curious about our work at the campus on Clare Street.
“It has also proven a haven of calm for many shoppers at this busy time of year, who have wandered in to enjoy the work on display,” he added.
The “LSAD Artists on Display” pop up store will be open throughout the Christmas period, located next to Specsavers in the former Intersport Elverys unit.
Shoppers are invited to take a walk in and browse, and meet some of the artists and support local artist in the county and Mid West region.
