My name is Nicola and I completed the Transition to Higher Education in May 2018.
Originally, I only needed to complete the Maths module so I could apply to the Precision Engineering course in TUS, as I had never completed my Leaving Certificate.
I didn't know what to expect from this course as I'd never been to college before, so it was quite scary.
Through doing the Transition to Higher Education course it helped me to ease into college life more comfortably and see where everything was in TUS, and it became less scary.
The lecturers that teach each module were very helpful and couldn't do enough for us and were very encouraging. One lecturer Anna still checks in regularly to see how I'm getting on or if I need anything and couldn't be more encouraging.
I didn't need every module on the course, but I learned something from each one. Just to name a few, for e.g., Personal Development thought me to reflect and the benefits you get from it. Academic Writing taught me referencing and bibliography which I had never learned about previous to this, but it explained a lot.
I still pass some of the students that were in the course with me, and we discuss how we're getting on but without this course I would have found going back to education very overwhelming.
I'm delighted I did the Transition to Higher Level course and so much of the content covered has been of great use to me.
I would recommend it to anyone thinking of getting back to studying that has been out of college/school awhile, in particular mature students like myself.
I have just completed my level 6 in Precision Engineering, all while working full time around my courses. It's hard work at times but very rewarding.
I have also started to progress at work and recently become a Process Technician.
I highly recommend getting started on your college journey. You won't regret it.
