Business Management Testimonial

Business Management Student Testimonial

The Higher Diploma in Business Management is a part time, two-year programme aimed at non-business graduates who are looking to advance their careers by achieving a qualification in business management.

This programme will cover the key principles of business management and is structured to maximise student learning through facilitating students to consider the implementation of such concepts and principles in a work environment.

Have a read of what Barry, one of our recent graduates, had to say  ...

Previous qualification?

Before starting the HDIP in Business Management I had previously qualified as an Electrician in 2006. After some busy years working I went back to college in 2011 to study Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Griffith College before returning to complete a Bachelor of Engineering in LIT between 2014 and 2017. Business was something I never thought I would see myself doing but after seeing an online campaign and reading through the course prospectus I jumped at the opportunity and within a week I had enrolled in the HDIP.

How was your LIT experience?

I have spent a lot of time in LIT over the years between my apprenticeship, engineering and business courses and it has always been so welcoming. The admin, facilities and academic staff are a real credit to this institution and it is definitely one of the main reasons why I chose to come back time and again.

Juggling work & study?

Juggling work and study was always a challenge but with the support of my family and the staff in LIT it was made a lot easier. It’s not a walk in the park but when you have the right people with you it makes it a whole lot easier.

LIT staff & supports?

Top class! If I couldn't make a class due to work commitments I knew I could send the lecturer an email and they wouldn’t make a fuss and would make sure I had the correct notes and material to get me through the week.

Programme delivery method?

The flexible model is great. One night a week is plenty when you are working full time. It gives you the opportunity to concentrate fully on the topic you are covering which gives you the best chance of maximising your grades.

Favourite modules?

I really enjoyed Strategic Management. I was able to take in the content that was being delivered but also refer back to the company I work for and understand the rationale behind really important decisions that had been made during that time.

Will you be able to apply knowledge you have gained?

Yes, the course really does give you a broad range of knowledge on how a company, whether it be a local shop, a medium sized construction company or a large multinational works behind the scenes.

Plans for further study?

For now my studies have paused so I can dedicate my time to my wife and young family. My ambition one day would be to continue on to a Masters programme.

Your thoughts on LIT Flexible Learning in general?

It affords people in full time employment the opportunity to better themselves through education, broaden their network and establish lifelong friendships. Barry, Higher Diploma in Business Management 2020
