The 3D Portfolio Project

In addition to meeting the Leaving Certificate/QQI FET/FETAC and Mature Student entry requirements, applicants to the BSc. (Hons) in Game Art & Design and the BSc. (Hons) in Visual Effects for Film, TV & Animation must also pass either a traditional portfolio assessment or the 3D Portfolio Project outlined below. It is important to note that applicants have a choice of doing one or the other and both are marked out of 600.

The traditional portfolio assessment comprises of an applicant submitting a portfolio of art and/or design work either in physical format or digitally. More information on this option is available here and information on how to submit your portfolio online is available at

The 3D Portfolio Project is in recognition of the knowledge, skills and design expertise many post-primary students acquire while studying Design and Communication Graphics (DCG) and similar subjects. As such, the 3D Portfolio Project brief invites applicants to “re-imagine and re-design any real-world modern-day functional object” using 3D modelling software such as Solidworks. Submission Deadline

The 3D Project Portfolio must be submitted online at before:

17:00 on 26th March 2021 If CAO application was made by the 1st of February 2021
17:00 on 28th May 2021 If CAO application was made by the 1st of May 2021
17:00 on 8th July 2021 If CAO application was made by the 1st of July 2021
