International Women's Day 2021

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

In association with THEA, we celebrated the change that is brought about through challenge, and acknowledging our resilience. Read the stories of Dr Maura Clancy and Noreen Keane - two of our inspiring female                                                                                                      leaders and role models.

In 2021, we are shining a spotlight on the Cultural Creative Industry through our partnership with Creative Europe Wom@rts. While women have a crucial role in the Cultural Creative Industry, they are often significantly under represented in high level decision making in this sector and their work is often not valued to the same extent as men’s.

On International Women’s Day, we held a webinar where we discussed the challenges to being creative during the COVID 19 pandemic, how some of us overcame some of these challenges and what learnings we can take from this experience.

Creative Europe Wom@rts Training Programme

The Limerick School of Art and Design and Women in Film and Television, Helsinki have developed a training programme with Creative Europe Wom@arts for female artists across 8 European countries. These cultural practitioners work in areas as diverse as the visual arts to the film industry. The programme is aimed at developing key skills in business to confidence building. The Irish training programme also offered the participants a unique experience to visually respond to the processing of their training by attending a workshop in the technique of Risograph. The participants had never worked with Risograph before. Here you can watch a short film of the work produced by the Irish cohort. Find out more about this programme here.
