The BA in Accounting programme is designed in consultation with industry, and the professional accountancy bodies to provide graduates with the skills set necessary to become effective problem solvers and decision makers.

The subject content of the programme has been strategically aligned to ensure that graduates will receive maximum exemptions from the professional accountancy bodies.

What are the entry requirements?

Leaving Certificate or equivalent. 

Special Case Registrations: Prospective participants who do not meet the entry requirements for the programme detailed above, but who may qualify for admission by meeting certain other equivalent criteria, including workplace experience may apply for consideration.

Applicants wishing to apply for advanced entry to year 2 or 3 of this programme should complete and submit an Advanced Entry Application Form which can be downloaded here. Completed forms, along with supporting documentation as outlined on the form, should be submitted to the Flexible Learning Office of TUS by email to flexible@lit.ie 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a minimum score of 5.5 in an IELTS exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a minimum of 6.0 is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their English proficiency meets these requirements.

Are there opportunities for further study?

Students will gain maximum exemptions from professional accountancy examinations – with only final level professional accountancy exams to sit.

What are the career prospects?

Professional accountancy, auditing, tax consultancy. Other career opportunities are in banking, insurance, financial services and teaching.

Delivery

Delivery will be blended with three weekend workshops per semester, 2 semesters per year and 12 weeks per semester.

Workshops will be held in either Limerick or Clonmel depending on demand. Lectures will be pre-recorded each week and available for students to download. There will also be an online tutorial per module each week.

  • Number of Weeks: 12 per semester
  • Number of Days/Evenings per week: 2 evenings per week, per semester for tutorials. Recorded lecture 3 hours per module, per semester.
  • Delivery Day/Evening: Wednesday & Thursdays
  • Number of Hours per day/evening: 1.5 hours
  • Times: 7pm - 8:30pm

Materials

Students will be required to purchase a study manual for each module. Approximate cost per module is €40.

What will the time committment be?

Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college. The balance between these two varies by discipline, and by level of study. You should bear in mind that the workload will increase at particular times e.g. when assignments are due. 

Assessment

Quantitative Methods and the Business and Economic Environment will be assessed by 100% Continuous Assessment. The assessment for both modules will consist of a Written Project and Oral Presentation. The oral presentation will take place on campus at the end of the semester. All of the other modules will be assessed by a written exam or equivalent at the end of the relevant semester.

Fees

€10,800 in total TBC for 2023

€3,600 per year. Fees will be collected on an annual basis. Instalment plans will be available.
