This Masters Degree is aimed at learners interested in acquiring a highly practical Level 9 qualification in the area of Strategic Business Management and Marketing. The programme builds students' strategic management skills through a combination of Problem Based Learning (PBL), direct contact with industry, workshops and case studies.
The programme is structured to maximise students’ practice-based learning and involves extensive student participation. To facilitate student activity, the programme employs a PBL philosophy; students are constantly challenged to apply learning and theory to real world situations and to devise appropriate solutions for problems presented to them; learners present project analysis and solutions to participating industry panels. The PBL approach offers a structure of investigation to follow while reminding students of the standards required to produce effective outcomes. The aim of the programme is to prepare students for the demands of management positions in a rapidly changing, knowledge based economy while offering benefits in terms of research to participating companies. Examples of previous organisations that students have worked with include Dell, Glenilen, Killarney Racecourse and The Great Limerick Run.
What are the entry requirements?
An Honours Degree in Business Management and/or Marketing with a minimum award of Second Class Honour Grade 2
An Honours Degree in Business Management and/OR Marketing AND at least 2 years relevant professional experience/responsibility
An interview may form part of the selection process. A laptop is required to participate in this programme.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a minimum score of 5.5 in an IELTS exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a minimum of 6.0 is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their English proficiency meets these requirements.

On successful completion of this programme, students may be eligible for progression to PhD level.
2 Years, 30 weeks per year, 1 evening per week. 3 hours per evening, 6.30pm to 9.30pm. There will be an additional 8 Saturday Workshops per year (8 hours per day), dates to be confirmed. Delivery will be blended, using a mix of online and classroom based learning.
What will the time commitment be?
Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college. The balance between these two varies by discipline, and by level of study. You should bear in mind that the workload will increase at particular times e.g. when assisgnments are due.
Assessment is 100% continuous assessment.
Deliverables for PBL assessments are varied and may include group and individual written reports, presentations, websites, blogs, videos, storyboards, news items, posters, research papers, models, debates and lectures.
In Year Two of the programme, learners will be required to complete a 20,000 word thesis, due by last working day of August (Thesis Writing up: 12 weeks approx. usually from June-August)
