The Postgraduate Diploma in Smart Manufacturing Technology is a practice-based higher-education programme linked to industry needs to produce an industry-ready professionals to address the challenges and opportunities arising from increased digitalisation of Manufacturing and the adoption of Industry 4.0. 

The programme is aimed at existing technical or scientific graduates or those migrating from associated disciplines. The majority of the credits and learning outcomes will be work-based, supported by a training programme of masterclasses, delivered through bootcamps, workshops, on-line tutorials, knowledge platforms, guest lecturers and site-visits. The Learner will spend less than 20% of their annual working time in attendance in LIT. The programme aims to develop Smart Manufacturing Champions to operate within manufacturing enterprises, who can focus on the integration of systems, analysis of key data and the demonstration of opportunities and added value for the business.

What are the entry requirements?

(a) The principal entry requirement for the Postgraduate programme is a Level 8 honours degree, at minimum second class honours (NFQ or other internationally recognised equivalent), in a relevant discipline. 

(b) Applicants from other Level 8 degree disciplines who have a minimum of three years experiential learning in an appropriate manufacturing environment (with a demonstrable knowledge of mathematics and computing) may also apply. 

(c) A deep knowledge of manufacturing environments and the potential benefits and challenges facing manufacturing from digitalisation would be beneficial.

Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) / Special Case Registrations: Prospective participants who do not meet the entry requirements for the programme detailed above, but who may qualify for admission by meeting certain other equivalent criteria, should notify the Flexible Learning Office and request consideration under RPL. This programme will run online from January 2022 to December 2022 (TBC)
8 hours per week. Exact timetable TBC.

What will the time commitment be?

Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college. The balance between these two varies by discipline, and by level of study. You should bear in mind that the workload will increase at particular times e.g. when assignments are due.

Course Fees

The total fee for this programme is €6,750. This programme is funded by the National Training Fund under Human Capital Iniatitive Pillar 1 and all successful applicants will receive 90% funding for employed/recent graduate applicants and 100% funding for unemployed applicants.

The 10% fee to be paid will be €675 for all successful employed applicants.
