Taking place in the Millenium Theatre from 12pm to 2pm, the free event, titled ‘Inspiring Women Entrepreneurs’ is focused on tapping into the entrepreneurial potential of female professionals, women in senior corporate positions, as well as those with doctoral and post-doctoral qualifications, or females seeking a change of direction.
Supported by Enterprise Ireland and KPMG, the flagship programme aims to foster innovation and entrepreneurial capacity among women, grow their network, expand their knowledge and gain access to a wide range of supports.
Learning from the expertise and experiences of existing entrepreneurs, the inspiring lunch event will feature an interactive discussion with a panel of women who have achieved significant milestones in their respective industries. Chaired by Paula Fitzsimons, who leads the award-winning ‘Going for Growth’ and ‘ACORNS’ programmes, the panel will include Dr Anne Cusack, co-founder and former CEO of Critical Healthcare, Dr Barbara Anne Murphy, Founder of Equilume Ltd and Dr Vanessa Creaven founder of Spotlight Oral Care.
The event will address how the ‘Inspiring Women Entrepreneurs’ initiative will support women who aspire to set up a business but who perhaps up to now, have not taken significant action or accessed supports.
Gillian Barry, Head of Innovation & Enterprise at TUS and Co-Director of startup Grind Limerick said, “The number of women starting a business in Ireland is on the increase, an exciting fact considering for many years it was a case of getting a great job if you wanted to make an impact rather than creating a great job and leading that impact. We are delighted to host this event in TUS with such an incredible panel of female entrepreneurs who started with just an idea but are here now reflecting on their journey and sharing valuable insights with us. We are also delighted to see the continued development of initiatives to support women who take the leap to startup. We’ve had many of our New Frontiers alumni work with Paula Fitzsimons to great success over the years and are delighted to be working with her and the team on this event.”
Paula Fitzsimons, Founder and Director of Going for Growth stated, “The objective of this new and exciting initiative is to increase the number of female-led innovative businesses of scale, focused on export markets. Through the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) research, we know that more women in Ireland are aspiring to start new businesses and that the rate of early-stage female entrepreneurs that aspire for significant growth is also increasing. Building on this fertile ground, we want to introduce the possibility of an entrepreneurial career to particular groups of women that may not have considered it previously and where we believe untapped, entrepreneurial potential lies.”
