My name is Jack Rice and I am a second year student studying Culinary Arts.
I chose to Culinary Arts in the CAO because in Transition Year in school we had to do a two-week work placement and I was unsure what I wanted to do. I ended up going down to Cork to work with my brother in his kitchen as I knew he would give me a job for the two weeks. After that experience I realised that I really enjoy being and working in the kitchen, so I decided to give the course a go and I loved it from the very start.
When I began my studies in TUS, I was surprised to find how helpful all the lecturers were. They really go above and beyond for you and are there to help you with whatever you need.
I like that the course is mostly practical and that there isn’t that much written work or long assignments. The practical elements of the course are what make it so enjoyable. I also like how the classes aren’t too big which allows you the chance to build better relationship with your lecturers and have easier access to them
I am looking forward to going on my work placements. After graduation I hope to work at the highest possible level that I can.
